National Night Out
National Night Out is a unique event designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit, as well as police-community partnerships.
Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) the annual event began back in 1984 when Matt Peskin, then the executive director of NATW, sought a way to unify and strengthen communities nationwide and encourage neighbors to get more involved with crimewatch. Initially communities held lights-on vigils on National Night Out to send the message to criminals that they were united, alert and ready to fight crime. The event has slowly evolved into block parties, festivals and other events of similar nature to help bring neighbors together.
Here at Stevens Park Village, it’s our largest social gathering of the year. It’s also our largest neighborhood fundraiser with a silent auction filled with goodies to out bid your fellow neighbors on! So when National Night Out rolls around every October, flip on your porch light and head on out to meet and catch up with neighbors.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 2, 2012!
